Hello All!
I’ve heard from many of my colleagues that this has felt like a “normal” beginning of the year. What a relief for students and staff! I’m sure students and alumni are excited to celebrate an old-fashioned Homecoming next week too. Before all the activities begin, I want to provide you with important information regarding the Advanced Placement (AP) testing for this school year, happening May 6-17, 2024.
All students currently in an AP full-year, or 1st semester course, should have received an AP class Join Code from their teacher(s). Please get these entered into your current College Board account, as soon as possible. The email and password are the same as last year. There are still a few students who have not done this.
o Do not have a College Board account set up? Go to www.collegeboard.org/register to create your account. Make sure you use your full legal name and use a personal email, not your school email.
o If you are interested in taking an AP exam that you currently are not enrolled in or that is not an AP course being taught by a JM teacher, contact Sandy Nieland, sanieland@rochesterschools.org I can give you the Join Code for that AP exam.
o AP Exam Test Dates: https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/courses/exam-dates-and-fees
- The deadline to have your College Board account updated with Join Codes is October 6, 2023.
Payment for AP exams will be done through an online registration program called Total Registration. If you had a Total Registration account last year, the email and password will be the same this year. This account will allow students and families to pay with a credit/debit card. If you do not have one, create an account at http://user.totalregistration.net/AP/242100 Again, use your full legal name and personal email address for this account.
o Costs for AP Exams for the 2023-2024 school year.
$67 regular testing fee for each exam
$32 free/reduced lunch fee waiver for each exam
Payment is due by November 2, 2023. If you do not pay for the exam/s by this deadline, no exam will be ordered. Late fees will be assessed for exams ordered after this date.
If you qualify for the free/reduced lunch program and have not yet completed the paperwork, stop in to the counseling office and ask for the forms. If you have completed the paperwork, I have this on file. When you are registering on Total Registration, click YES, for the question about qualifying for a reduced fee. You will NOT be able to pay for the exam until I approve your free/reduced lunch status on Total Registration. Once I have done this, you will receive an email informing you that you are able to pay for the exam/s.
A $40.00 late fee will be charged for exams requested after November 15, 2023, that are considered year-long, 1st semester courses and exam-only AP exams.
There is a $40 cancellation fee for the 2023-2024 AP exams after November 15, 2023.
If you do NOT want to take the AP Exam/s for the class/es in which you are enrolled, email sanieland@rochesterschools.org. I will change your test status from YES to NO on The College Board website. An exam will not be ordered for you. You will not be charged. The deadline to decline an exam is November 2, 2023.
If you have any questions regarding AP testing, please reach out to your AP teacher(s), Sandy Nieland or Cindy Cox. We all are here to help you. Have a great school year!
