student for student spotlight

Our first STUDENT SPOTLIGHT is DeShawn Morgan. I’ve talked to DeShawn countless times over the years, but it wasn’t until I ran into last week checking out the artwork in the Art Department that I learned even more about him. DeShawn shared with me his career aspirations of either being a welder like his uncle, or a digital graphic designer. He showed me some of the video graphic work he does - he is talented and passionate about his work!

DeShawn wants people to know that he is a fun person to be around. He is also a great person to talk with, as he is a very good listener. He thought you’d all be surprised to learn that he does not listen to rap music, (‘Why does everyone think I listen to rap?’, he declared), and that he knows how to play ‘Rock-a-bye Baby’ on the recorder. Yes, those same recorders that all 4th grade students bring home!

At John Marshall, DeShawn plays defensive end for our JM football team and wants to go out for wrestling and track this school year. He is also very involved in our new eSports team, which is a competitive and organized video game team. Any interesting tidbit about DeShawn is that his favorite food is beef bacon (not too crispy, and not too soggy) on donuts!
