On display Level 1 Northrop Community Education throughout Fall 2024
This fall, Northrop Community Education Center will host a unique and thought-provoking exhibit, "Through the Lens: Immigrant Perspectives on Health in Southeast Minnesota." Running throughout Fall 2024, this exhibit showcases the work of Hispanic/Latino and Somali immigrant community members who spent three months learning photography skills and engaging in a process called Photovoice to document the health issues in their community.
Photovoice is a collaborative method used in community-based research and advocacy, enabling participants to share their lived experiences through photography. This project is particularly focused on promoting health and participation in health research within Minnesota's immigrant communities, especially the Somali and Hispanic/Latino populations.
Visitors to the exhibit will gain insight into the health challenges faced by these communities and the resilience and strength they display in addressing these issues. The photographs provide a powerful narrative, offering a window into the experiences and perspectives of immigrant communities in southeastern Minnesota.
Don't miss this opportunity to engage with the stories and voices of your community members. "Through the Lens" is more than an exhibit; it's a call to action for inclusivity and community solidarity. Visit the Northrop Community Education Center this fall to witness the impact of immigrant perspectives on health in our region.
