The Rocket Connection: Back to School Dates and Details
John Marshall High School

Dear John Marshall Families,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! Like you, we miss “normal school.” Nothing would make the JM staff happier than to have our Rocket students back on campus for the start of school but, as you’re well aware, we’re at a challenging point in time and that’s simply not possible. The JM staff is undaunted, though, and we’ve been working incredibly hard -- and we’ll continue to do so in the weeks ahead -- to bring our students the very best possible distance learning instruction. Whether face-to-face, or via Google Classroom, we can’t wait to start the 2020-2021 school year with our JM Rockets!
This letter is the first of what will be several as we get closer to the start of school.  We continue to work through many logistical details and, as we finalize these important points, I will continue to communicate with you at least weekly.

Here are some important details and dates:

When is Schedule Pick-Up Day?

We will not be having a schedule pick up day before the start of school. Student schedules will go “live” in Skyward at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24.  At that time students will be able to login to Skyward and see their schedule for distance learning. Families unable to access Skyward from home should call the school at 328-5402 after August 24.

When are School Pictures?

We have rescheduled School Pictures for January 25 and 26.  We will also be moving the yearbook to a fall delivery date (Fall of 2021) in order to accommodate student pictures as well as all spring events and rescheduled sports.

Will there be a Freshman Orientation?

Yes, we will be holding a series of freshman orientation events in small groups on Monday, August 31. Freshman families will receive a letter tomorrow (August 21) outlining details; this letter will include a sign-up link as well.

District Needs Assessment Survey:

If you have not already done so, please take a moment to fill out the district needs assessment survey. This is vital to us as we plan technology distribution, student meals, etc. Here’s the link:

Family Needs Assessment- Technology, Child Care, Meals

Future letters will share even more details as well as information about device/technology distribution, textbook and supplies pick-up, and more.

More to Come!

Coming soon, a snapshot of what distance learning will look like for our Rockets this fall. You will soon be receiving a letter from the district outlining distance learning details for the coming year. JM will follow-up shortly after with specifics about our building’s plan for distance learning and student support. In the meantime, I want you to have the most current information as we plan for our first day of school September 2, and I’ll continue to update you as we finalize important details. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with your questions. I’m here to help! You can reach me via email or you can call my direct line at (507) 328-5403.

Looking forward to a fresh start to distance learning and to a brand new year at JM!
